The law is not the revelation of God. Its not who God is. In fact it was deliver to moses by an angel, it was temporal and not even the original covenant. I believe the purpose of the law is this: Not necesarily when you do these things God will bless you and when you dont God will curse you. I dont think God is in the business of blessing and cursing. What i mean by that is i think that sin is its own punishment. God doesnt punish sin, SIN BRINGS DEATH. Sin is its own punishment. Its a desease! The result is evident! The world is a dark place. Think-since the fall, the world, humanity, even nature itself has spiraled downward into choas. Humanity has made this world what it is. Sin gave birth to death and death has reaked havoc. It is what made this world what it is. The things that happen to us aren't Gods soveriegn will, this world is run by sin. Satan is the king of this world. Why do bad things happen to good people? Becuase of our sin. We do bad things to good people. Its not God's doing, its the result of our independence from him. Every act of anger, every lie, every cheat makes the world a darker place. Things happen becuase of cause and effect- our sinful ways, Its not "Gods will" as if hes orchestrating every event on earth. WE are responsible, WE are to blame So where is God in all this? Hes are savior. Full of love. Tormented by our pain, by his childrens suffering he decided to take our place. Something any loving father would do for his children. He had to save us! But he wouldnt overstep our will. He had to change this but still perserve who we are. Never to force anything upon us but to draw us out. He became a man, entered into this cold world and endured everything it had. He died for us. He came as a light in a world full of darkness. Jesus's words flowed upstream, against every status quo, every tradition, and all knowledge that men had of God. This man who claimed to be the son of God, was really not like any God they ever knew. Rather than judgement he gave mercy, rather then hostility he had love, rather then exalted he was lowly. So much so, the scribes and pharisee who devoted there lives to the scriptures didnt even recognize him. Religion offers us its own preception on God. A king who is seated on a throne in heaven; sitting, watching, judging what is good and evil. Blessing the good and cursing the evil. A divine CEO, managing every detail of this world as he sees fit. As a divine puppeteer or playwriter. Scripting the universe from day to day. Very impersonal not very endearing, definitely not someone we can relate to. while Jesus is the "nice guy". Stepping in the way in the nic of time to save us from the wrath of an angry father. But who is that? I dont know him. You see Jesus said "if you see me you've seen the father" and "the father and i are one". Let me say that Jesus is the greatest and fullest revelation of God we have. All scripture must be seen through the lens of who Jesus is. That means the OT, the law, our traditional views, what are heart tells us, everything. If we saw God in heaven he would look the same. He didnt judge, he befreinded and ate sinners, full of mercy and love, forgiving sins, healing the broken. Caring and full of Joy and full of love. Not up there, but down here, along side in our midst. He was a man, a person like one of us. This is Jesus and this is God, this is the father. The lbed every bit of it in himself. Becuase he loves us. But it couldnt kill him and in him it was overcome. Death was swallowed up in life. Death and sin ended. So is this that God that sits on the throne way up in the sky? pointing out what were doing wrong and what we should be doing? Blaming us for what has happened.I dont think so. I dont think that God exists. God is pained, grieved watching his children dying. Listening to everyone of their cries and groans. So he came down here to get us. Do you think he condemns you? No He doesnt condemn us he saves us. He doesnt punish us for our sin, he helps us out of it. He doesnt tell us what we should do but he gently draws close and shows us a better way. He doesnt demand and take from us but he fills and gives to us. He doesnt ask us to change, he tells us he loves us and that changes us. He doesnt control us or make us, he invites us. One of the biggest lies i believe the devil has ever told is we have to be better, or change to have a relationship with God. No no no. Its in a relationship with God that he changes us. We can come in our filth; in sin, in unworthiness- as we are. So what has he done? How has he fixed it? Hes given us a new life. Where we can have a relationship with him. Thats the answer to this world. Knowing him-eternal life. Hes started a whole new world and in this one, our adam didnt fail.
